Often referred to as "The Lake District", Cumbria has many attractions, places of interest and a wide range of geographic features. The museum at Ulverston, near Broughton in Furness, contains many artefacts from the region, Roman remains can still be seen at many places such as Ambleside, Bowness and Penrith. Many of the farmhouses around the region, especially near keswick and Ambleside date back many hundreds of years and reflect the long association with hill farming in Cumbria. Castles can be found such as Kendal Castle in Kendal Town, the early Motte and Bailey Castle of Castle Howe, also at Kendal, and the 13th century Cockermouth Castle. The roman road from Penrith to Carlisle, takes you to Hadrians wall.
